Over the years, Grant has made a conscious effort to pursue creative work outside of his career as a graphic designer—work that is more hands-on and tactile. These personal explorations gradually came together and evolved into the paper collage pieces he creates today.

Much of his work can be described as minimalist. The compositions often focus on a single subject, distilled into simple forms and a limited palette of two or three colors. Reducing each piece to its essential elements.

TL;DR: I cut up pieces of paper and glue them to wood.

Grant was born in Sanford, North Carolina, a small town about 35 miles southwest of Raleigh. His mother, Marsha, was an artist, art teacher, and graphic designer, so art was a constant presence throughout his formative years. Her paintings hung on the walls, a potter’s wheel sat on the back porch, and visits to museums and galleries were part of everyday life. That early exposure to art continues to influence and shape Grant’s life and work. Somewhat following in his mother's footsteps, Grant has been working as a graphic designer for 25+ years. He has been showing his paper collage work professionally since 2009.
